Raincloud plots describing the variation in migratory behavior between and within two of our case studies (caribou, in red, and ferruginous hawks or FEHA in blue). The left panel displays values of \(R = \frac{\rho _1 + \rho _0}{\rho _0}\), which measures how much more quickly animals move during migration, and the right panel displays \(\kappa _1\), which represents the increase in directional persistence observed during migration. The values for ferruginous hawks were obtained by fitting our model with \(c = 1\)
