That is \(t_b=t_2-t_1\) where the ant contacted the arena boundary at \(t=t_1\) and exited the 3 cm wide boundary strip at \(t=t_2\) (further details are described in the text). In the left panel the experimental \(P(t_b)\) is compared to the model result. In the right panel we show the distributions \(P(v_x,t_1)\) of the x component of velocity \(v_x(t_1)\) at time \(t=t_1\) where positive values correspond to motion towards the boundary
