From: A role for lakes in revealing the nature of animal movement using high dimensional telemetry systems
Acoustic telemetry yield data on the instrumented animal’s positions, path, space use, activity levels, temperature use, and habitat selection in up to four dimensions. Here, we illustrate how detections on a grid of acoustic receivers can be used to investigate patterns in the behaviour and physiology of free living fish to describe where, when, how, and why animals are moving.
