Comparison of potential flow theory to measurements by Grare et al. [31]. The vertical component of the wave-induced wind (wwi) scaled with surface orbital velocity (Akc) is shown on the x-axis and scaled height (kz) is shown on the y-axis in a semilog plot. We see that the potential flow estimate for the vertical component of the wave-induced wind gives a slight under-prediction but generally agrees with the empirical model best-fit curve for the vertical component of wave-induced wind from [31]. This comparison to observations gives confidence that the wave-induced wind estimates used here are reasonably representative of the conditions at sea during wave-slope soaring
