Trajectories of all 20 Pacific black duck released from December 2009 to September 2011. Arrows show direction of travel. Seven individuals undertook long distance movements at various times throughout the study period visiting ephemeral wetlands throughout the region. For all long distance movements taken over the study period only one long distance step (>100 km) occurred during the day; all other long distance movements were nocturnal. Large lakes shown on the map (Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre, Lake Torrens and Lake Frome) are extensive salt lakes that rarely fill and present little or no viable habitat available for Pacific black duck
