Movement rates (m hr-1) before, during and after the dispersal event and throughout the rest of the year for a) dispersers and b) residents The mean movement rate in each period is shown with error bars representing ±1 SE. For dispersers, movement rate in the during-dispersal time period was significantly greater than in all other time periods and the before-dispersal period was also greater than the after-dispersal period, which was not different from the rest of the year. For residents, there was no significant difference in mean movement rate before, during and after the dispersal period, and in all these periods they moved slower than during the rest of the year.
